Recommended Yearly Routine Care by Age Group

Puppies/Kittens - Typical approach
Visit #1 - Start at 6-8 weeks old
  • Exam, DAP(Dogs) FRCP(Cats), Deworm, Fecal test
Visit #2 - 3-4weeks after visit #1
  • Exam, DAP(Dogs) FRCP(Cats), Deworm, Fecal test (until 2 negative results at consecutive visits)
  • Non-core vaccines if needed (such as BV or FLVA)
Visit #3 - 3-4 weeks after visit #2
  • Exam, DAP(Dogs) FRCP(Cats), Deworm, Fecal test (until 2 negative results at consecutive visits)
  • Non-core vaccines if needed (such as BV or FLVA)
Visit #4- Usually roughly 14-16 weeks old at this point
  • Exam, DAP(Dogs) FRCP(Cats), Rabies, (Fecal/ De-worm if haven’t previously documented 2 negative results)
  • Non-core vaccines if needed (such as BV or FLVA)


Less than 4 years old
  • Yearly exam, needed core vaccines (on an every 3 year basis), fecal test, heartworm test, non-core vaccines as needed
4-7 years old
  • Yearly exam, junior wellness blood panel, needed core vaccines (on an every 3 year basis), fecal test, heartworm test, non-core vaccines as needed
7+ years old
  • Exam (a physical exam every 6 months is ideal for senior pets), senior wellness blood panel, needed core vaccines (on an every 3 year basis), fecal test, heartworm test, non-core vaccines as needed

Additional Descriptions

  • Yearly preventative blood work is key to diagnosing diseases early, or assuring you and the doctor that your pet’s organs are functioning properly.
  • Fecal tests are key to assuring that there are no intestinal parasites such as tapeworms – these can infect your pet, other pets, the environment and even humans.
  • Vaccines given at the right intervals, for the right situations are key to preventing spread of very common and serious diseases.
  • Heart worm test is essential to assure your pet has not contracted heartworm disease as well as enable you to continue to purchase prevention yearly (giving prevention to a pet that has heartworm disease can be hazardous)

Additional Diagnostics & Procedures

  • Monitoring blood work (for long term medications such as NSAID’s, Thyroid, Phenobarbital etc.)
  • Orastrip point-of-care testing (for oral disease)
  • Dental cleaning procedure (see the dental section)
  • Cold Laser or Chiropractic adjustments - for certain arthritic conditions
  • Blood glucose curve testing for diabetic pets
  • Urine testing/monitoring for pets with urinary tract disorders
  • X-rays for monitoring chronic diseases (i.e. Arthritis, dental issues, cancer screening)
